Security Wall Safe Company, Boston Mass

Any idea what lock this thing has? It must be a group 2 I imagine as there is no handle to open the door. You just turn right until it stops and open the door from my understanding.
The dial reads "Security Wall Safe Co., Boston, Mass" I haven't been able to find much info on these but did find a couple pictures of a removed safe with the door open.

The lack of a handle does IMHO not require it to be a group 2 lock, but as it does not really look like a hight security safe it seems likely that it is a group 2 lock. Already started spinning?

It is at somebody's house and I have only talked to them about it briefly. I haven't had a shot at it yet. How else could it be opened? It couldn't be direct entry could it?

I think without handle it can't be a direct entry. But from the door mechanics a normal 6730 looks the same as a 3390 (2M), 6630 (2M), 1947 (1) or 8560 (1R). Have you looked here was e.g. Oldfast has opened? That wall safe could be similar to the handle-less floor safes.

Yeah, I realize that it could be something other than group 2, but it is definitely older and I tend to doubt that it is something other than group 2.

Hello,

I am new here. I have also located one of these in a house I am flipping. I found this site by googling "Security Wall Safe Co Boston." If anyone is interested, I will place this in the Buy/Sell forum. It is still installed in the wall (in a closet). I can have my carpenter remove it if there is any interest. Located in western Mass.

The safe is not locked, so I took the plate off the back of the locking door and could sort of figure out the combination by watching the mechanism. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how.

Beautiful. Funny thing is that the safe I have in question is also in Western, MA. Did you snap any pictures or could you describe the locking mechanism at all?

Yes, there are two pictures posted above. Are they not visible? They look okay to me.

They are visible but they show nothing of the locking mechanism, just the dial.

Got the safe open tonight! It took me about fifteen minutes to free-spin the lock open, however actually getting the door open took about an hour and a half. The safe hadn't been opened in decades and several layers of paint had glued it shut. Copious amounts of razor blade work, banging with a dead blow, PTFE lubricant, and gentle prying eventually coaxed the door open. Unfortunately there was nothing in it, actually there wasn't even a safe in it... The back side of the safe had been removed and the door opened into the wall! Talk about disappointing. The lock was of a group 2 design with two locking bolts. It only had two wheels and opens on a R-L-R to open dialing sequence. The contact points are between 55 and 68 and the lock stops when opening on R50. Interestingly enough, the gates on this lock are quite wide, 8 numbers to be exact, so dialing one of these open would be quite feasible.

Great work on this one Brandan! And thanks for the detailed photos!
I didn't recognize that dial, so it's nice to see what's on the other side.

Thanks, Mike. It was definitely fun but frustrating that it took so long to get that door open! :P

Was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have a security wall safe in my closet and have no clue how to attempt to try and open it. Any input would be great. It looks similar to the one here. Thanks
