The answer is in the past postings. Not your fault, but many have come to this site for an easy answer, obtained it, and never show up on the forum again. Kind of like one and done.

i want to be able to use it, but I dont understand these instructions on how to open it. Mechanical i aint. Thanks for responding. I understand your position. I would feel the same, I'm sure. I won't lie with a "I'll be back" response. Unless of course I find another lock without a key in my house. Got any medical questions? I can help you in that subject. Covid-19? Will you trade?

I bought a Cole file cabinet with the 3" dial and found the number behind the middle drawer of N-155117.
Would someone please decode this for me?
Thank you! Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thankfully whoever had it taped the bolt in the retracked position, so worst case I could leave it unlocked.

If it is open it is very easy. The door has at the back a small hole where you can see into the lock. Turn the dial a few times right (clockwise) and continue to turn slowly while you look into this hole. You will see the wheel most near to the back. At one location this wheel has gap that is as wide as this hole is. When this gap is at the hole (still only turning right!) stop turning and look at the dial. The number at the index mark is your first number. Then slowly left with the gap still at the hole. After nearly one rotation the other wheel will start to turn. Continue again until its gap is at the hole, stop turning and look at the number at the index mark. These are the two numbers you need.

To open turn right until the first number is at least the third time at the index. Then turn left until the second number is exactly the second time at the index. Then turn right to open. At this point the dial will stop with a retracted bolt. Test this at least three times to verify it is opening properly before you close the door.

You and another member responded with the same instructions when the safe door is already open to look through the peep hole on the back of the safe door. It worked beautifully. It took a little practice to turn slowly and double-check each number, but I now have the combination.

Is the dial 2 1/2” or 3” in diameter?

Good day all!

Seems like its the same story for every one... Acquired an old Cole filing cabinet/safe combo. Read through the forum and can't figured anything out. The safe door is open but in the locked position, and I have been sitting here turning the combo knob and nothing is moving in the peep hole besides a very small bar (possibly the fence/gate thing I keep seeing referenced) But no dials on the inside are moving. It's a 3 inch combo lock. Not sure if the code on the inside of the cabinet is actually relevant after reading this but going to offer that information up anyways, N855402.

Any help is welcome! Thank you!
