BEST lock breakdown

Here is a 7 pin BEST small format interchangeable core lock. There Core is made up of 3 parts, the plug the control sleeve and the shell. A core key is inserted and turned 20 degrees clockwise which turns the control sleeve and retracts the control lug. Ken Peterson makes a set of IC tension bars to assist in picking the core to the control line. The tension bar is inserted into the holes in the bottom of the control sleeve to put more tension on the control sheer line.


Core with control lug retracted, core can be inserted or removed from housing.

Great pictures and tutorial Kokomo, I love these locks, but I seldom take them apart, I don't have the tools to dump them or recap them so when I take them apart it is usually to junk them and just see whats inside playing around.

Hooray photo breakdown! Except now my head hurts from thinking about cool locks wrapped inside other locks are... If I add the 4th positions control number to X, then that's how many asprin I should take right?

I was wondering what the holes in the bottom of my best core were for, good to finally have an answer. I might have to pick up those peterson icore tension wrenches, they sound pretty good.
