Re: A few picks from this morning
Sweet set man. Looking perfect. If I didnt know, I would say these are commercial picks lol. I am especially interested in hearing about the 2nd from the left. Looks like a hook if used in the direction all 4 are from the left but what is the opposite part sticking out for? or do you use it the other way? Whats the material, windshield wipers?
Re: A few picks from this morning
The second fron the left is mor or less a half diamond , I just styled it a bit to match the rest of the rakes, although I have found when making picks the tool will last longer if all of the working end is of a uniform thickness. I am glad you like them, they are indeed wiper inserts.

Hi Jammed Lock,
Nice looking picks - great work!
Would love to hear more details about your pick making process
How do you shape the picks? grinder wheel? dremel?
Also, how do you prepare the acrylic pen blanks to fit the picks? Drill them out? Cut them in half?
Then use epoxy to seat them?
Kind regards,
Sean

That's some killer picks there JL! Unique styles too! Truly a work of art and I'd love to know how well those rakes work as they certainly look like lock slayers. Are they lock specific or just a design you came up with?

I would be interested to hear some more detail on how these were shaped as well. Great work.
Re: A few picks from this morning
Thanks for the interest in the picks , i don't think there are any originals in this set all slight variations of a bogota with exception of the hook and the king and queen rakes. All my picks are roughed in on the grinder and then filed to as perfect as I can get them. The are then polished on a buffer using three different compounds until finally finished up in jewellers rouge. The acrylic is slabs sawn from a pen blank or similar acrylic block, they are sanded then polished the same method as the picks, the handle is carefully drilled and the pick is seated with epoxy.
I hope that give you an insight into my madness !

Very nicely done.
Modeled on the SouthOrd Pagoda set?
I can truly sympathise with your madness.
How do you find the king and queen picks? I have never used them and would be interested to hear your impressions of them.
Again, excellent work.
