Re: Gun/Tool Oil

As Alphablue mentioned CLP is good stuff. It's readily available and relatively inexpensive.

Eezox is a good one for wiping things down for long term storage. I don't like it as much as a lube, but it leaves a nice protective film on things. It has a strong odor, but it's a bit lemony so not objectionable.

FP-10 is one of my favorite gun/machine lubes, but it's more expensive. A little goes a long way; most people make the mistake of over-lubricating with this stuff. It smells a bit like cinnamon so it's less offensive to the nose than many other oils.

Pierce is an excellent penetrating oil. I use it for freeing up things that have seized up due to rust or accumulated crud.

If you need a heavier lubricant Militec-1 makes an excellent synthetic grease. I use it in place of lithium grease when I want something less messy. A trick to using it is to wipe a very thin layer where you need it then heat it up with a hair dryer or a heat gun so it penetrates into all the microscopic pores of the metal, then once it cools off add a little bit more before reassembling. It's excellent stuff, but it's pricey and very foul smelling.
The same company also makes other lubricating oils and dry lubes but I haven't used those much to give feedback on them.
