Finally bumped a lock

Today I was Picken my American 700 when I noticed how low the cuts were and Thought I would try to make a bump key . First I filed the cuts with a triangle file tried it and it did not work. so I took a chainsaw file and filed the cuts tried it and it worked first try . I must give credit to mr pharmer 2012 for his vids I used my finger as a bump hammer like he does . All of my attempts at bump keys all 3 of them failed when all I needed was a chainsaw file go figure.
Another form of manipulation crossed off my list it goes to show the value of all these videos you guys make . They might not seem like much to you when there made but to many of us they are invaluable .

Wonderful! Nice work. Most of my endevours are preceeded with fails... sometimes lot of em'. lol
In fact sometimes I just PLAN on it. I'll say, "today I will learn how to fail in every way possible, and then tomorrow will come."
It's always so exciting each time we delve into a new technique... a different attack. It's all new & the excitement is fresh.

I'm rather embarrassed to say that I'm still to ever bump a lock!

When I first learned of the technique it certainly intrigued me and so I made myself a couple of bump keys. These were for Yale and Union. When I had no success I went ahead and purchased the same respective bump keys but unfortunately I had no luck yet again. Since then I have not tried. I put it down to poor technique alongside the quality of the locks I was trying to bump.

However, I think it is high time I tried this once again and this time I WILL succeed! It seems like a VERY handy skill to possess and you can never have enough weapons in your armoury, right?

Don't worry you are not alone bump keys are not the magic open any lock bullshit they are put out to be . They will open locks but not like the news would have you believe . 80 % of people have cheap locks that a punch drunk squirrel could pick any way .

That's been my experience also. Some locks bump almost instantly and others refuse to be bumped. I found that using a small rubber washer makes the process more reliable (and it also prevents the lock face being dented by the key shoulder).

I was with 4 other guys ..... same lock , same bump key same bump hammer . They all bumped the lock within 3 or 4 attempts.

I was never able to get that dam lock to bump open.

Obviously my technique needs some work.

You know they are reported to be "magic keys" to open "all" locks. In reality there is still a degree of skill in using tools like bump keys and snap picks. It is just another tool to open locks with but, once you bump a lock, one develops a need to try and bump the rest. Congrats it is always a good day when you learn a new technique. I just made my first snap picks out of bike spokes and popped a pin and tumbler safety deposit box lock in two snaps so I know the feeling.

I was alway curious... which parts were the pins... amd which were the tumblers?

On topic... congrads... i suck at bumping... it is a worth tactic to add to your toolbox... but i have not got the technique down
