KW mortise cylinder modified

So this is what I am going to be adding to the Oldfast pass along. I am posting a bunch of pics so I didn't want to hijack that thread.

I went to Lowes today and picked up a cheap screwdriver $ .88, a bar of allthread $1.06, and used tools for the rest.

I started by grinding a sharp point on the screwdriver then heat treating it instead of using a file then put it in a vise and secured it and put my pins in a Dremel.

Then I countermilled the plug.

Then I countermilled the cylinder.

Made the caps out of a bar of allthread with a dremel making a slot on the top for a screwdriver.

And this is the finished product.

The lock still functions with the key smoothly. After I countermilled the plug it made it a great deal harder to pick. I have not tried picking since I countermilled the cylinder.

That looks...evil. :D

I like your allthread idea, what size is that?

Thankya sir. I like the screwdriver idea too, if I ever get any better with security pins I'll have to try that as well.

Very nice! Aedelas, didn't you see my post about the 6/32 set screws? Let me know if you want a bag of 100 and I'll hook you up next time I order!
femurat: They're called restricted for a reason...

GWiens2001: Great video! Learned a lot about what fun can be had with a forklift and a chainsaw.

I did, but at the time I wasn't thinking about modding locks like this. Also I have a few pieces of allthread at work that I thought may be the right size. And I'd need to order a tap, all of mine are far to big.

I'll take a bag if you order again Jeff, just lemme know. Thankya.

In the meantime though I have some screws at work I might try to cut down.

Hell yeah... looks great!! I've never dealt with counter-milling before... so it'll be all new to me.

Looks like it'll be a real pain... :???: ...which usually equals pleasure :D Thanks so much for sharing Matt.

UPDATE Re: KW mortise cylinder modified

I've just picked this lock. It's not impossible but it is a wicked challenge. I hope it will be a challenge as it goes down the line. It had a false set that went almost to 10 o'clock.

I am next on the list as far as I know. Maybe the mortise cylinder will make it's way over to you after the pass around. Maybe the last person on the list can pass it along.

Also I got rid of the caps and made some out of brass. I remembered afterwards that steel and brass make for dielectric corrosion.
