Picker, been there, done that! MSC, Grainger, and McMaster-Carr are far too expensive even in quantity (at least to me)

Cut the springs on the ones I did in the past and they worked like a charm. I took off a little less than 1/8th of an inch. That is definitely something that you have to do to make these work smoothly. I had a long pin on a schlage that really over compressed the spring when the screw was added even if the screw was only partially in. Now its like butter. Thanks for the idea JM. Sweet.

Seems like if you're really worried about losing the springs you could even attach them to the set screws with a little bit of epoxy or something. Maybe even just super glue.

Attempt at your own risk, just a thought and I have no experience with that at all.
