I have one of the exact same boxes, received in a very similar situation. (now open)
The first thing to do is to find the main gate on the drive wheel, run the wheel around 3 or 4 times in one direction, doesn't matter which, and stop at 'A', pull down on the tab to open gently and rotate the wheel in the opposite direction you started with. You will feel the tab lock in to a gate / false gate, there are 12 false and one true gate, if the wheel wiggles ~ 1/2 increment either direction you have a false gate, the true gate is one full letter either direction, that will be the last letter in your combination. That's the easy one (not that these are hard by any means).
Now clear everything, 3 or 4 turns in one direction, stopping again at "A", now go the opposite direction back to your true gate on the drive wheel, and pull down on the tab and wiggle the wheel, pay attention to how far the tab drops, you will notice a significant difference at one point, this will likely, but not always, end up being the first letter in the combination, (i have inspected a few of these locks now and the locking bars all appear to be the same with the middle post being a touch shorter than the other two), now it's easy enough to brute force the combination, considering the gates are 2 letters wide, you don't need to be precise at all and even if the second letter happens to be on the wheel you can run all of the combinations in minutes.
I had my first one open in under 10 minutes with no research, in other words.... i wouldn't trust these with the keys to my house... Lol!
Hope this helps.
Mike. (the other other other other other other other Mike)
