Cannon Safe Model Scout old spin style combo help

Hey all, I am working on a gun safe for a buddy, he has it locked open and I know how to get to the combo and decode the combo once I open up the door, but how do I find a key blank for it to change the combo? I realize I can pick it but I need a permanent solution, the company has said if I get with a locksmith they should be able to help easily as it is a discontinued model, they were actually very helpful with instructions, but do not know which key blanks it is as they don't do replacement keys. If any of you have a clue let me know, if not I will figure it out, just I like coming here first. Thanks

Re: Cannon Safe Model Scout old spin style combo help

unless I am reading you're post wrong you are looking for a change key, if so its not a key blank you are looking for but a change key (to change the combination).
Change key's look like these viewtopic.php?f=49&t=9788
if you post up the model the lock is (should be a sticker on the lock housing in the door) then we can find you the right change key :)

if you are looking for a key blank for the dial then disregard what I said ;)

Nah it has a keyway I'll get a picture when I can but it's a key for emergency lockout/combination changing. I may get in there and realize that it's emergency lockout only and you change it with a switch on the back. I haven't seen it yet just some phone pictures, but maybe it does take one of those as well. I will see this weekend, now I've got something else to look for when I open it thank you for the idea I wasn't thinking about it like that.

This is not his but the same concept it says LG045 I'm not sure yet if that is the "cut" or if that is a model number I'll know more when I check it out.

Actually that is not an emergency lockout. That locks the dial to prevent it from spinning. If his dial spins then it is unlocked. It is normally a cheap wafer lock and the numbers would be the key code.

Wolfspring, good to see ya around :)

This vid shows you a change key and how to use it.
There's plenty of other vids out there that may explain it
a little more clearly and slowly for you. Search around.

Does your friend know the current combination for the lock?
It's still easy enough without it, but I'm just wondering.

Ah, here we go. I knew there was a better vid for this :)
Our very own Kokomo runs you through the basics of operating
a safe lock and also covers combo changes (at about 6:30 in).

Re: Cannon Safe Model Scout old spin style combo help

Key blanks that would possibly enter the keyway.
Off the top of my head:
Y11
Y12
N54G
1866-10
1866-13
CG16
1041T

Then impression it or pick it out by hooking the rear retainer and decode.
You can remove the dial and press the plug retainer from the back of it too.
