Chubbs secret 7 lever lock On cell doors
10 years later I finally get to share with you a look at this lock.

Lever locks are a bit tricky but if your into lever picking it's fun.
Deal pending hopefully.

Nice lock.
They are quite easy to pick once you get round the stronger springs.
A normal 2 in 1 won't do it, you'll have fun coming up with a tool to open them.

So locks arrived this morning and the deal was succesful

Left and right hand cell locks

Sure Will be fun trying to pick these and make working keys.
Will learn more about them over the next few days but can say there are no wardings
Or antipick notches on levers.

Observations so far
Key blank required is 4 or 4.5 gauge and was 16mm after taking a measurement
from inner front to back plates
The brass levers are 1.8 mm thick also all 7 in the lock and are not numbered or stamped .
Lever bellies are also different ..so a impression attempt may be possible to work out lever heights
prior to a opening :geek: given you know size of levers and are unknown at this point .

Re: Chubbs custodial secret cell door lever lock

Do you know how the special features of this lock work?

I do see levers with three positions for the bolt stump, a spring loaded bolt pushed to the locked position, a spring loaded blocking element preventing the bolt to be extended fully. It looks like the step from fully to half extended doesn't require much of a key.

Re: Chubbs custodial secret cell door lever lock

I think ...

When the lock is fully unlocked and the key is inserted and turned, the springs might push the bolt to the fully locked position, because there is a straight path for the bolt stump. Unlocking requires two turns. Maybe it is a fast-locking feature? Or it is a manipulation protection when the bolt gets stuck after one turn?

Re: Chubbs custodial secret cell door lever lock

My thoughts regarding the special locking features so far .
I think the half locked up position locks the main horizontal bolt works
that's Controlled by the outside turn handle mech

There's a few kinds on chubbs custodial site And I've included a few pics of them
ie. The main locking bolt to secure cell door Mechanism 4L65 4L55 4L56

So locks the bolt back every time inside of the door ..even when open !
all that's needed is a Double notched horizontal main bolt and you've got a secure
Anti-tamper proof bolt mechanism that stays locked all the time

Otherwise when the door is open a inmate could potentially gain acces to this
Bolt by a twist of the out side handle and over time Saw it Off or weaken it
Going unnoticed By authorities.
Then with a good blow the bolt ...would break off and it would fail

The lever cell lock bolt is forced by the springs to the half way locked up position After a opening
Every time by itself ..it can not be over looked by the key holder.
The brass side arm stops the bolt at the half way position as it's under spring tension
As the bolt travels downwards with some force ..the arm buffers and stops it from becoming overshot.

A very good security feature to have .. and the inmate never gets to see the bolt in door :geek:

Re: Chubbs custodial secret cell door lever lock

After speaking to the seller this morning on the phone from UK .
He informs me the small cut out or angled slot under the keyway
Is where a small piece of metal fits and acts as a shoot to carry away
to the side any foreign material that may get jammed into key way fyi

 Thanks Jay
