I don't know too much about fiberglass and doors, but a strange thing happened to me when me and my coworker where working on a Trilogy Lock.

I was holding the door opened and slid my hand up the edge of the door. I felt a slight pain on my finger, like a splinter.

But instead of a splinter there was a thread that was embedded into my finger.

I showed my coworker and he pulled it out of my finger, I felt little pain as he pulled the thread out.

But how can something like a thread fiber get embedded into my finger?

It's weird and I wished we took a picture of it. I have the fiber thread somewhere in a plastic bag but can't find it at the moment.

CB antennas made of fiberglass that get dried out in the sun will do this big time if you slide your hand on it. And it isn't just one fiber but many. Had it happen only once I never did that again.

Some doors - mostly residential - are indeed fiberglass-skinned. As Mr. Wizard mentioned, fiberglass can weather badly; it begins to lose structural integrity and kind of 'fray', so to speak. You appear to have found one of these doors the hard way, though it could be worse - the most painful I've experienced were a basketball backboard and an elderly fiberglass ladder .

It doesn't feel good, that's for sure. I've gotten fiberglass in my hand several times from an old ladder. The best way to remove it is by using duct tape to adhere to the fibers

Fiber glass is indeed a fiber.
Molten glass that's stretched into a fine thread but yet pretty stiff.
Easy to get slivers on it and man, are they ever painful.
I broke a fiber glass hockey stick when I was a kid, had to go to the hospital
to have about 200 slivers removed from my hand. Took the doctor more than 3 hours
and he had to use a big lighted magnifying glass to get the job done.
Some months later, some fibers were stiff festering out of my hand...

I never owner another fiber glass hockey stick.
