What a locksmith needs to know to get a license

Illinois state publishes a guide to what a locksmith needs to know in order to get a license to work as a locksmith .

Of course other places will have different knowledge requirements but this will give you some idea of what you need to study for to pass a locksmith exam.

Not every one wants to or can afford some of the courses offered by locksmith training places.

You can learn on your own from whats on the internet and from buying a few books.

FREE .....12 locksmith courses each over 30 pages long ... no registration hassles just click and read.

Re: What a locksmith needs to know to get a license

What I hope to create is a thread where we can show what must be learned to pass locksmith tests for various credentials,
and who can teach the material at a reasonable price. The first 12 lessons are free with no strings attached. At the very least you will be able to talk with locksmiths and others in locksport with out sounding like an ignorant know nothing.

A lot of people can't afford Fowley Belsaw and courses like that with requirement of all cash up front. You are also paying for a lot of tools that can be bought cheaper else where.

Completing the free 12 topic course gives you a chance to see if you enjoy learning about something in locksmithing that is not lock picking.

Re: What a locksmith needs to know to get a license

Well SOPL no longer offers the free mandatory courses. The course modules have a lot of information and some people consider it to be worth it.

You can however order the course for $13.98 each. This also entitles you to take the exam and get certificates with course credits that are transferable .
