Nice, flywheel. You gonna try taking apart the components of the upper/lower body assemblies? Was considering doing a writeup on the 833 I got from Sour, but it kind of would duplicate your pics here. You might add a picture down the shackle hole of the lower lock body showing the large hardened steel insert. ;)

Re: Sargent & Greenleaf 951 Padlock

This is as far as the breakdown goes. The picture below shows the shackle, ball bearing, and spring loaded pointer. The steel insert can be seen in the second group of photos above. Other than those things I don't think anything else can be removed. The steel insert and the ball bearing are crimped in place which I hate to mess with. The roll pin in the pointer interacts with the lock cam. I don't have experience removing and replacing them so it will also be left alone. The shackle could be removed if the compression pin was taken out, but really no reason to unless it is being replaced.

It might be interesting to highlight the differences between the 833 and 951.

A couple pictures to highlight the difference between the operating and control key. The round operating key has an extra tab of metal on the right side that the square control key does not. The operating key can only turn CW (when unlocking the padlock) while the control key can turn both CW (unlock) an CCW (disassemble).

I'll add some more picturess soon to illustrate the cam position when locked, unlocked, and ready for disassembly.

Sweet. I was also curious at these locks. Thanks Fly
Why are there two parts? Just a design or it adds security?

That is to allow the lock cylinder to be field changeable and increases security over say the American style locking nut.

Some more pictures showing the cam position when locked, unlocked, and for disassembly. The ball bearing from the top piece will ride on the cam at the twelve o'clock position.
