A bit of a noob when it comes to Medeco locks

So my dad handed me this box for Christmas and said that he had a little challenge for me and that was to pick this lock he bought blind so I took it out of the box and knew I was screwed when I saw it.... It's a Medeco and I have only picked one before so trying to pick one blind seems impossible to me but he said he will only give me the key when I bring the lock to him open so I really want to pick it.

Now I had a question about this lock and that is when I look in the keyway I see a little tab at the bottom right and when I push on it it pushes back so there is a spring holding it or something and I was wondering what this did in the lock?

Oh and here is the lock.

the tab is called a slider, that means its a m3 or m3b. post a pic of the keyway and i can tell you.

The slider basically blocks the sidebar from interacting with the pins until it is pushed.

Edit: Very nice lock btw ;)

ooh nice! i have one just like that but its a biaxial. it is a nice padlock. too bad u have to buy a special cylinder for it since the driver is part of the cylinder. also note that those are bit expensive if he paid retail for it. good luck with the job! what a score ;)

Thanks man! It can seem very easy at times but when I try and pick it again right after it can take me five minutes or more so it is a off and on thing.

Oh and I don't think I could ever give this lock away but maybe another one will come my way in the future and then I wouldn't have a problem giving it up after I had picked it a few times.
