Sargent & Greenleaf BLAST-PROOF MILITARY PADLOCK REVISED!

this is a COOL lock!
the Ingersoll / S&G 831-B military issue shrouded padlock.
this lock is the only lock in the world that can be submerged in liquid nitrogen for 1/2 an Hr.
with little effect. (any regular lock would shatter into pieces with a smack of a hammer.)

this lock is also Blast -Proof,and shrouded to an extreme.
it has a giant bar double locking mechanism ,and a six-pin Medeco keyway.
it is re-keyable and serviceable using a service key, rotating the plug backwards.
(unfortunately i do not have the service key,but am working on decoding the pins)
thank you, hallischalmers for all your help in obtaining this beauty ! =)
any questions, feel free to ask,as i am trying to learn all i possibly can about these locks.
also, i must thank Han Fey for providing a plethora of information on this family of locks.
here is a short vid on the subject. (REVISED VID)

Re: Sargent & Greenleaf 831-B (m) BLAST-PROOF MILITARY PADLOCK

That is still probably the coolest padlock I have ever seen. Blast proof huh... I bet I could jimmy it open with a pocket knife in 6 seconds.

You lucky SOB. Have you had much luck picking it?

She's a beauty alright....BTW, Awol, I bought her little sister...an 826D. Not as husky as the big sister you have - but still built like an Abrams tank.

I'll post my pictures soon.

I've got one of these too. I bought it over a month ago, but I havn't been home to check it out.

If you do find out how to get the service key working, I'd love to know.
I've got a mate who can do medeco systems so I'll get him to rekey it for me if I can get the core out.

Any info you can pass along would be awesome.

yeah, well check THIS out...the only diff between control and service key is the SHOULDER of the key...(the control key does not have a shoulder so it can be turned CCW.)
the operating key is the same cut,but has a shoulder which prevents it from turning backwards.
(thanks jakko for letting me in on that.)
so, you and i both have user key, and service key..."surprise"
i was elated when i discovered this, but i really dont want to file the shoulder off my original key.
blanks for this lock are apparently MURDER to find,(i hope i am wrong on that..)
looking forward to your pics, and in the meantime :

Indeed the blanks would be stupidly hard to find, The system will be full factory restricted from Medeco itself.

But I've never worked with medeco stuff, so I wonder if the plug and cylinder can just be replaced with another more available medeco system, because that would make life alot easier.

i believe you are correct..even just swapping out the plug would be awesome , if possible.
i did get 6 different blanks (medeco) and none of them fit...i might be able to mod one, tho.

yes,i am able to pick it TO the sidebar, but i can't get past the rotating pins yet.
i am working on putting together a medecoder,as well,to aid in pin rotation.

Re: Sargent & Greenleaf 831-B (m) BLAST-PROOF MILITARY PADLOCK

Medecoder is nice, but it won't work for the new chisel pins coming off the line. It probably will for that lock, but why not start with a twisted half diamond rather than jumping in head first with the Medecoder? You've got the key, so you know the rotation. It would be difficult to tell if you were picking it to true set or false set if you can't get the sidebar pins set. There should be at least two mushroom drivers in there.
