round cylinder type key, advice?

My son is bringing his cheap safe over to me this weekend to see if I can get access and I presume he wont supply the key in case I cheat.
It is a digital electronic with a key override. The key is the round cylinder type and my plan is to go for the key override as I dont know anything regarding the digital side of things. I intend to try the `ballpoint pen` method first and hope I hit lucky.
If this fails are these locks (cylinder) easy to pick or do I need special tools?

the safe will be similar to the image below.

check out "safe bouncing" on youtube.
As for tools I use a tubular pick purchased from Southord.

Can't recall where I have seen home made tools, but others here will be able to.

Good luck getting it open.

Thanks jharveee I will have a look at that. Its just a £30 safe so dont anticipate too much problem. I am only 4 weeks in to this but managing SSP on euro locks so family are throwing challenges at me, keep em coming I say!
I just gotta beat the challenge :-)

Not sure how to send links to vids yet.
Youtube Has several videos on picking tubular locks.
Many how to, some with homemade tools.

I've been told that you will have to pick the lock several times depending on how far you need to rotate the cam on back... and pick it back to the locked position.
Something to Remember before getting started.

:agree: I'm not familiar with those little 'el-cheapos' and have never had the opportunity to try 'bouncing'....
but definitely worth a try and I'd love to hear if you have success. Again, I've never tried it, but it doesn't
look like you'd have to be rough with it. Seems to be more a game of timing than anything. Good luck!

Hit it with the palm of your hand on top and turn the handle-nob at the same time it will open in seconds ! high security yep

no tools required :D love to see your sons face when you open it in seconds the vibration on top over the door causes the locking bolt to jump a flaw in these safes.

Ha ha I hope so. Only been doing this for 4 weeks and I am beginning to think are any locks worth having. Managed all the locks in the house so far, ok not all by SPP as yet but scary how I have managed to open every one so far.

I have bounced a couple cheap safes. Some I managed to open, others I haven't. It's not the force, it's the timing. If you are already forcing to turn when you hit it, it doesnt open. If you do it too late, it doesn't too. It has to be perfect timing.

Here's a video that also explains how the bouncing works (as well as other techniques to open them):

Let us know how it goes

Did you bounce it or use a tubular lock pick?

Bounced it. I also showed him the vulnerability of accessing from the back. I need to make a tensioner for the `round` lock but using a normal tensioner I can get some of the pins set, just my tensioner wont stay in position. Shouldnt be a problem picking it.
