Help! messed up my lock

I went back to my french doors as I failed on these a couple of weeks back, not capable yet of SPP but thought I would try and rake it, Urika I managed to open it, quite gentle raking nothing severe , but, Not quite sure of the sequence of events but I have managed to get it stuck in the half a revolution turn and the key wont go back in to allow me to turn the complete revolution.
I then thought ok I`ll take the lock out and sort it however it would appear the cam has locked the barrel in position (me assuming) and doesnt allow me to extract the barrel. I have locked unlocked from the other side of the door but still cant extract the barrel. Its a euro type lock.
Any suggestions on how I can correct this.

This always happens to everybody at least once in their picking careers :P

This is also a good reason to never pick locks that are in use or relied upon ;)

What happened when you turned it 180 degrees is that the top/driver pins dropped into the bottom of the keyway. Try sticking the bottom edge of a pick in the keyway and pushing all of the driver pins up at the same time. Put light tension on the lock. If need be you might need to flip the pick around and push in stubborn ones that just arent playing nice.

:yep: I'll raise my hand for that one!! lol

Remember, during normal use the bottom of a key blade would fill this area.
Thus, not allowing the drive pins to drop into the bottom of the keyway.
Might take ya some finagling, but you'll be able to coax those drive
pins back up, and you can then finsih you're full rotation.

Don't you have to push something into the cam for the cam to rotate as well on some of those locks? The key normally does this doesn't it? Using the straight end of the tensioner whilst holding those pins down/up. Just a thought.

Also had key pins fall out of the holes used for re-keying.
the fun never stops.

Count me as well!

Did that with one of those newer 5200's..someone told me a comb pick would help might help, as I wasn't having much luck pushing the drivers back up, but I didnt have one so:
I wrote to American/master explaining my problem and then sent me a brand new lock free of charge.

That worked and lock back to normal operation. Pheew! Sorted before the wife comes home.

Interesting as I replicated the 180° position on my practice lock (1 pin at the moment) and in one direction it sometimes sticks a little but then clears if I turn the opposite way, however because it is a cutaway it clearly shows how this is happening, which is useful.

On further examination using the practice lock it would appear the ideal situation would be to turn the barrel say 90°then insert a flat thin edge (pick) that will slide along the groove where the key would normally sit and then turn past the 180° point this would prevent the pins dropping in to the keyway as it would fill the gap.

Yes, that's usually a good idea.

Glad you got it sorted.

Yeah but since you can quickly get over the issue (once you realised what it is) by pushing with the backside of the pick,
The other time a lock fan can get scared by this phenomenon is when you repin a lock. Some lock can get stuck while you push in our out the cylinder (there are holes other then the pin holes where the driver pins can get caught. This is very annoying since you may have to drill the lock...
Some locks are very prone to this annoying habit (YES I mean you Multlock Interactive. The old type was a nightmare, you had to drill that out...)

Sent you a brand new one?! Something tells me you didn't tell them the whole story. lol
Not to get off topic, but American 5200's can be picked CC to pop the shackle. If I have
trouble picking CW, I'll go the other way with it. The binding order will be different and
sometimes makes for an easier pick. Not my idea... I first seen this done by LSA.

No problem. It's always nice to have more than one option.
