I received this lock and thought it would be perfect for a practice lock to set up fewer pins or serrated/safety pins for a challenge.

Don't know how common they are yet but if I get some more I might swap them around the forum.

The little cap just clips on top and is easily removable with a little pry up with a screw driver.

Those look just like our very ubiquitous Kwikset locks here in the states, even the same keyway!

This locks is made to use standard pins.
However, it is of a mediocre quality and have poor tolerances.
As a result, it is sloppy, which is fine to play with, but you will soon find it's limitations.

Just found out Lane and Lockwood are using this method now but you gotta watch out when using a pick gun as the caps can come off and that means pins and springs everywhere, again...

If you are worried, put a rubber band over the whole lot.

Still an easy way to start repinning.

Very true. These Lane locks are ubiquitous in every hardware store in OZ. They are cheaper than other locks but still overpriced.

Drop a half diamond in and they open - only marginally better than no lock at all!!

If you are just starting out they will give you a "buzz" for a short time but will quickly become boring as they offer no Challenge.

That said, they are a good lock to get you going.

Lockwoods are another story very well made but even then some of them just fall open while others of the same model are very difficult.

I have a couple of very expensive LW padlocks that open by just inserting a half diamond - no need to even pull it out!

Perhaps the fact that they are bitted all 2s is the reason.

A Bogoata will slay 99% of them -- except those God Dammed LW disk padlocks

When I first started as a young locksmith, Kwikset knob were very common.
On lock outs, I would sometimes set my pick gun to the highest tension and let it slap
the pins hard. The cap would pop off and the pins and springs would shoot inside the knob.
All I had to do was turn the plug to the left, open the door, get the client's key, remove the knob,
shake the pins and spring out and re-pin it the the client's key.

Don't know if it is worth dropping in a cut off 3mm bolt for a challenge. Might try that later.
