My keys are bleeding???!!!

I recently bought an Dom cylinder of my locksmith here and wanted to clean it. While cleaning the keys suddenly red color was dropping out of the interactive pin at the key. What you see on the pictures is the cleaner tainted red by something in that interactive pin. At least I think that is what it is... some sort of lubricant maybe? I stopped the cleaning process because I didn't know if it is meant to be there or not. Maybe a colored grease?

Re: My keys are bleeding???!!!

Dicey... Just because a key looks like it will fit there does not mean you should try putting it there. :fu:

OT... Could be lube or something they use to keep that element in place.

See the red piece of plastic? I'm guessing yours used to have one too...

Re: My keys are bleeding???!!!

Sorry but your explanation is missing. I am talking about the keys and my housing doesn't have a piece of plastic like this at least none that is sticking out.
Mine should be a Dom ix 5 if I am not wrong (didn't look it up yet).

Re: My keys are bleeding???!!!

Ahh, my bad. Looked like you cleaned the cylinder then inserted the keys. I don't have a key for my Dom but I'm pretty sure there is a plastic ring around that centered dimple. Or used to be anyways. The picture on the box for mine shows it as red too, Dom ix 5 KG.

Re: My keys are bleeding???!!!

I've seen a lot of colored pins in pinning kits - I always assumed they were anodized or something else similar to that ... maybe your lock has 'dyed' pins, and the solvent used to clean it is dissolving the dye on the pins...?

That's the only thing I can think of...

Looks like lubricant to me, I've seen my share of red lubricants across hardware and automotive counters.

Re: My keys are bleeding???!!!

my initial thought was that it would be that your solvent melted some plastic, clearly others had the same thoughts as well.
