Re: Commando Lock

I finally got around to placing an order and have some on the way; Patrick @ CLC is the frickin' man. I keep checking the mail like a kid on X-mass morning.
The hardest part is going to be figuring out which one to subject to DE testing w/ the torch, the BFH (Big Fkn Hammer) and such.... And which ones to keep for the collection. :ohnoes:

 I'll find the time. Things were a bit busy for a while with moving back to MA, getting working, the holidays and a new GF, lots going on but as I settle into things I will be back to playing with my locks and posting pics/vids.

Good job Logan! I'm pleased to hear you like em! If you post your destruction on YouTube, I'll send you a replacement...don't just grind the shackle though--that's the cheap way out. :hammerodeath:

Re: Commando Lock

Finally got around to fixing the shop stove and stocking up on firewood so I wouldn't freeze while destroying this Commando Lock.
All went pretty well besides burning my damn finger lol.
My only regret is that the cylinder got completely filled with melted cam; I really wanted to cut it out and save it :(

Note: video is unlisted so if you're having trouble searching it... thats why.

Re: Commando Lock

Interesting that in order to pry the lock open, you had to subject it to levage/force that it would be borderline impossible to produce with the lock on a chain or shackle. It still took an impressive amount of force to break it. I was shocked when you used the key, and the lock worked fine after your first round of prying.

Also, how many locks that have been heated cherry red, as you described it, would still stand up to the hammering while hot? Have you tried it with other locks?

This is not to belittle your torture tests, or the fact that zamak has too low a melting point to stand up to a torch, and should probably be replaced with something with a higher melting point. It is just my curiosity as to how other locks stand up to the same tests.

I wonder how well the Commando lock with a boron shackle would stand up to the pry test.

Thank you for showing us these torture tests, Logan! They were entertaining, and must have been fun for you to make.
