Took my own advice. Put them away for a couple of weeks and tried again.

Finally got the little buggers (Titallium locks).

They feel very different. I haven't pulled one down yet but I think that the key pins are stainless and the drivers are aluminium.

If you can find them, get one as they are cheap and a fun/challenging pick.

My new hook was a big help. :D

Abus 34/55 - New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)
You guys might have seen Bill and JMMurdy have fun with this lock and yes mine also came from ebay. I couldn't let such a deal pass by plus the lock is superb all around. It requires a heap of tension just to get the pins to bind, so much that I didn't even realize that its picked until nothing else was giving me feedback and I decided to apply more tension resulting in a successful pick. Got this baby open on a first try the first time and on a 4th the second time.

It is also key retaining and while gutting it, I couldn't figure out which part was responsible for the retention so if anyone does know, please advise, thanks.

Concept Lock w. Bill's Devil Sauce
After Bill cooked this lock in his devil love sauce, the thought of picking this lock had not crossed my mind and how could it since I had no luck before sending it to him and its even harder now but I gave it a try and surprised myself. This was the very first lock I picked with security pins and got it on my 3-4th try the first time. This lock opened the door and made me realize that I may not be that much of a lock picking noob after all. I didn't pick this lock today, more like a week ago but still wanted to share as I get familiar with things around here. I should have posted this lock first and the above Abus 34/55 later but oh well.

BTW, the original lock came with all spools (5) and Bill replaced the last 2 plus added one.

Abus 83/45 (Bill's Special Sauce)
Got this puppy from Bill with the return of the Concept lock and had it sitting there as I was way too far from ready for it or so I thought but after picking the Concept, I gave this a try and it was another surprise but picked. Also about a week ago but this is my first ever Abus and second every security lock picked. I dont remember exactly on what attempted I actually picked the first time but its around 5. This lock is tons of fun to pick and a personal favorite, so far. But the story continues and due to the success here, I pulled out that NYCHA Abus 34/88 and you already know about that one (above).

The current lock is an American 700. The owner lost the keys and donated it to me. It spent 2 years or more years outside so I picked it, did a full clean/restore and made a key. I didn't SPP it which is why I'm not posting it. Those serrated pins have claimed a few battles already but the war will be mine, sooner or later :). I took plenty of pictures of the cleaning, disassemble, assembly etc. so I may make an individual thread of it, if it hasn't been done already.

Small box of locks from my favorite lock shop. Mostly so-so stuff, but think it was assembled to throw me off my guard, because that Schlage KIK cylinder has been tampered with! Took me fifteen minutes the first time, and it has a staggering deep false set - almost like the Yale LFIC that flywheel made. But this one is not an IC, so it was not 'picked to control'.

Later I will take it apart and see what tampering they did with it. It should be interesting. Will be sure to post pics.

OK, false alarm. They did not specially pin the KIK cylinder. Took it apart and it came apart smooth as silk using a plug follower. Here is what I found:

Image

Yeah, no key pin in four. Five pins in a six pin cylinder. Five pin key. So why is there a pin in six? And why is there no driver pin stuck in pin channel 4 if someone just missed the key pin? Well, time for further disassembly.

Image

Huh??? A key pin above the driver pin in the fifth pin channel, and the extra driver pin in pin channel six (with a broken driver spring???

Image

Guess someone brought in a broken lock and they replaced the cylinder.

So, as I said, false alarm.

Wow, Gordon someone did a horrible job at reassembly and I suspect the spring wasn't broken until you cleared the shear and broke it :)

Great picking tho but where did you get that pin tray? its EXACTLY what I have been searching for and trying to make.

A cheap lock I picked up earlier in the week

Pins dumped

Which had me wondering why there were more then 2 spools in the lock.

Setting things up in the plug shows that pin 3 and 4 push the spools too far up, effectively making them useles.

Smart key picked.jpg

Finally got it picked.
Peterson hook.
Bouncing on the tension wrench, kinda of an off on action.
Been trying to pick one of these locks for along time, with no luck.
Slayed the kwikset Smartkey lever.

Thanks to MacGNG's summer sale, I got my hand on my very first dimple lock :)
Great little lock w. a dead core and dead shackle. I'm assuming there are no springs to prevent rust as the box stated this lock is 100% rust free.

Nice, PG. Seems to be a fairly small keyway. Did you use a diamond?

Finally managed to pick the Queen I bought on eBay a few weeks ago. I kept thinking this was just a cheap lock but it kept picking like it had spools and maybe a serrated. Finally got it open today. 5 Pins, no key.
