Insomnia, is back. 3.30 am wide awake all week. So rather than go on the internet, and feel more awake, I had been getting a feel for dialing a safe, and contact points, in the dark,.(kinda like counting sheep).
After watching a you tube video posted by Potti314, I thought "wonder If I could do that without looking" . Well last night I picked a lock in the dark without looking. Wish I could say "I could do that in my sleep", but sadly I was wide awake.

Secondly, I would love to see a thread about your home made lever pick complete with parts list and how you acctually went about assembling that beauty.

It was only a few weeks ago you were picking a 3 lever warded. Now safes. Wow that's a rocket propelled learning curve.

Absolutely... I didn't take enough pictures as I went along, but plan on posting details... maybe tonight, but I'm pretty beat (and a 12 hour shift tomorrow... ugh) so it might be a few days before I get to it. Pretty easy to build, and cheap, and doesn't require much in tools (if you're good with a file). Stay tuned...

lol, thanks Ratlock. Think I just read something where you said something about running before learning to walk... I also don't really like to walk I actually expected more of a challenge out of the S&G 6804 than what it put up. Was very easy to tell when a lever was on the true gate or a false one by wiggling the levers, and the rest was just like picking spools in a pin tumbler. I spent some time feeling it out, but the actual pick only took maybe 10 minutes. Next step will be to make up some cheap "blanks" I can cut random bittings into and use to change the combination so I can practice more... those keys are silly expensive...

Perhaps a contour gauge copying tool, used with the lock cover removed, could be used to simulate new key bittings, negating the need for extra keys?
