2 Master 140 Padlock - 1 easy, 1 can't pop it

Hey Everyone!

Again, great forum and people here!

So I have 2 Master 140 Padlocks. One I can pop in 10 seconds, the other I have yet to pop. I know that lock manufacturing process can make one easy and one hard, but this one is really bothering me!

For some help, here is a pic of the keys. The left key is from the one I cannot pop, the right is the easy one. For the easy one, it seems like I can set a pin in the front, then go towards the back and I hit something (I guess a long pin based on the biting) and then juggle that and boom, open. I can do it repeatably. However, with the other one I can set 3 pins or so, but just can't pop it open. I know that these have at least 1 security pin, so I wonder if I am getting a false set?

Any tips?

you should see your plug turn a bit when you get a false set, you could be oversetting some of those shallow pins as well, I have never picked one of these but I have heard that they can be a pain at times, don't overthink the process, vary your tension while picking it and see if you can get it using different tension. Keep practicing, sometimes it helps if you skip a hard lock and move to another and go back and fourth.

You mention that you work front to back. Is that the binding order ?

When you release the tension can you determine how many pins drop ?

Seems like the hardest pin to get would be that last one without over setting the one just in front of it.

ed,slow down... relax....take a deep breath....one pin. its one pin. lighten up on the tension.
find the pin. its just one pin. you will find it.
forget the lock, or opening it,that is secondary.
one pin at a time....
repeat.

I remember having all the same questions when i couldn't open one of my brass BRINKS padlocks!!!!

Listen to the fellas above, and just worry about finding the binding pins,
and try not to squeeze it into submission like i do. :???:
If you can't be good, Be good at it.

Thanks so much guys, I used each one of your tips to now be able to reliably pop this open quick. One pin at a time might be my new motto!

This is one of the first locks that I sat and concentrated on and also the first that I feel like I can imagine what is going on inside.

Thanks again, this forum is great!
