please help me pick this lock , some tips!

Hey guys

I have tried SPPing this lock aswell as raking it aswell as a combination!

i just cannot get it to unlock!
I swear I have spent about 2 hours alone on this lock and it feels like im getting soo close! im telling you one pin is stopping me!

I have gotten the plug to turn a bit , and it feels like every pin is set!
I know what a security pin feels like if its a false set but I just cant figure this lock out....perhaps you guys can help me? I have read all the tutorials and I can spp a few locks already but this one is very difficult!

also the keyway is skew soo it is tricky getting a pick to pick the pins , also I cannot use a shorthook with this lock as the tension wrench seems to get in the way soo I have been using mainly a half diamond pick!

hhmm ,

but if its a false set , then surely It would NOT turn a little bit more when I set another pin?

for example I set the back pin and the cylinder moves a bit , then I set the front pin and it moves a bit more ...is it STILL a false set?

thanks for the vids will watch them now!

You say the keyway is skew......try top of keyway tension instead of normal tensioning, this way you can have more room in the keyway to manouvre your pick. Once you have the false set then feel for a pin that puts resistance and the tensioner should move slightly in the opposite way. Set that pin, you will feel the tension wrench pushing back and may hve to release tension slightly to set the pin. Then repeat this till it opens.

Porky, another good vid for you to see would be jruther2 video made for Riff. It has pretty good info on security pin locks. Specifically a Brinks Brass Padlock. It shows a good deal about picking order and spool pins.

Could someone give Porky the thread to this as I don't know how to put the link here?

Re: please help me pick this lock , some tips!

also I have found that by me putting pressure onto any pin near the front , my pick is hitting my tension wrench ...soo im getting "fake" feedback ...if you understand what im saying? I cant tell if the feedback is because im hitting a security pin or if its because of my pick!

also , i can only use a half diamond pick , the short hook wont fit in correctly to touch the pins!

also I have always put the tension wrench at the TOP of the key way , at the bottom it seems to slip out easier and I cant see the pins!

Possibly a thinner and a lttle shorter tw. That #1 pin has to be lifted high. If your correct about 4 spools and 1 standard then the vid I suggested would help some. Exact same combo as a Brinks Brass Padlock. If you search the lockpicking threads look for a post by Riff titled Brinks Maximum Security Brass Padlock. The vid is on page 4 of the topic and is made by jruther2.

Re: please help me pick this lock , some tips!

u have to use top of the keyway, also its a yale so u will most likey have some pins u will have to release some tension to get them to pop up, by doing this some of the pins will most likely fall back down, now its just a matter of getting all the pins in order.

yes that also is happening a lot ...soo frustrating!

I like set 4 pins , that takes me like 10 minutes only for the 5th pin to give me soo much counter rotation that all the other pins shoot up and I even land up losing my small 1 oclock false set! aarrggg....

gotta give it to Yale their locks are hard to pick!

Just keep at it you'll get it eventually ..........sometimes the best thing to do is to leave it for a while and go back to it.........frustration can play havoc when picking
