Another MTL Cutaway (yes that's the 4th now)

Really enjoyed cutting these away. I think I'm comming to the end of the honeymoon period with MTL PIP locks. If I get an MT5 it might spark me back in to action, but for now I am putting the MTL's to bed in preparation of my ASSA Twin ovals comming Wednesday (god I'm excited!).

So here is the final one, was going to cut the bottom pins, but they are hardened steel and I've not got the right tooling at the moment. This one is staying in the collection too ;)

Re: Another MTL Cutaway (yes that's the 4th now)

Thanks guys

I was looking through my old pictures today.... they go back about 4-5 months when I first started doing this. The quality of my early creations was absolutely disgusting compared to where I am at now, I'm ashamed of myself! But had it not been for those cutaways and selling them on, I wouldn't have the machine or anything.

How's the Medeco treating you Omegaman? All well & good I hope :) I got another medeco biaxial cabinet lock comming soon, will be cutting and keeping that one for myself though since you have the MK1 :p

Cheers!

Spence.

I use a vertical milling machine with various sized slot cutters. 1mm, 1.5mm, 3mm, 6mm mostly.

With all the skill in making those cutaways I bet you can make some top dollar picks! Some of the members on here never cease to amaze me with there skills and ability to make anything they want, and actually make it look nice! I wish I had the time and patience to do work like this.
I have been in the souls of many women, but I always end up on the soles of there shoes.

I'm terrible when it comes to focusing on something xD I have to be in the right mood to do cutaways. But once I'm going I just cut until I get the end result. I don't really stop to think about how I'm going to cut the locks because I've spent a while before having the machine visualising cuts on them.... so basically I am cutting from memory and by eye. Very theraputic too, calming, but engaging.

I tried making picks but it's not really my thing to tell the truth. If I had a CNC I would make some.

Omegaman, the ASSA's arn't here yet :( I'm getting pretty worried.

Trust me, you've got nothing to be ashamed about. That's just your ego getting too big for your head. Keep in mind that even Da Vinci started out drawing stick figures. As artistes we must suffer for our art.
