i am still learning,and math and numbers were always my weak point in school...
i wish i had a grade 10 testbook or something to learn proper technique and readings.
i dont have much to go on but a few pointers from people,and common sense,
but i am always left doubting myself whether or not i read and measured correctly...
i tryed just going around and measuring random objects,that helped a bit...
any tips or pointers on use/reading dial vernier calipers would be helpful..

I got a couple of digital calipers on Ebay for about $10 each. They seem to work well. They do metric or imperial, they can be "zeroed" at a size and then they give relative measurements from that size. Fairly precise too. I checked them against a set of standards I have for micrometers.

The old style verniers are like a slide rule. They look neat, but if you are not sure about the readings they are of little value. Plus if you got an old set they might not be reading accurately at the best of times.

For tips on reading the vernier, try Googling "reading vernier scale" lots of info there..
