:tubular: What is your best approach to tensioning tubular locks without notches? I.e. FJM tubular padlocks?

There are a few ways. Easiest is to use the outer notch, like the key does.

What about when the outer notch doesn't move, but rather the parts underneath move. Similar to how a lever lock key goes into the keyhole and rotates out of sight.

So there are some tubular locks I have here and also some tubular picks that ostensibly do not use anything to drive/tension the lock. So how do they work? Well, they use the pins themselves. The cutouts on the key/pick engage with the pin stacks and use them to drive the lock. Obviously, this would not work if every cut on the lock were all the way to the bottom, you need at least one high cut.

Also, you can grab the centre post.

Sparrows has just released a tool for this, it's designed by Lock_Noob and called the Goat.

No idea whether it will fit your particular application but at $7.95 it won't cost you a lot to find out.

Hi!

Yeah, I designed the Goat Wrench to pick exactly that type of lock. As MHM says, you don’t know ‘till you try as there could be something different with the lock you have, but there is a good chance it will work perfectly. And no, I don’t get money on sales, lol
