Pay Phone advice

Hi,

I have an old pay phone (common touchtone type) that I would like to open and remove the pins so that it no longer requires keys. The vault lock on the side has a core that rotates freely 90 degrees, but it is still locked. I am guessing this is a feature to prevent me from being able to use my torque bar? Is it even possible to pick these?

Re: Pay Phone advice

a pic of the Payphone and a clear closeup of the key way will go a longways in someone helping you.
as it stands it would be a guess at best, and more likely just cause frustration without more info :(

Good point. Here are the pics, attached to this post. The brass lock is for the vault, while the stainless one is for the upper section.

Re: Pay Phone advice

The stainless lock is a Medeco BiAxial. The bottom one is a type of lever lock. If the levers were in the correct position, the keyway would turn further.

lol yes that is true. so here it is: for the medeco, i'm pretty sure the western style locks are normal medeco pins with drivers, unlike the GTE style upper locks that use cam style pins ( i can check since i have a few of each). so read up on picking medecos. the bottom lock is a western electric 30C lock. read this link for more info: http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/wecolock/

good luck, and just keep practicing!

Re: Pay Phone advice

Thanks guys. I am up for the challenge of the Medeco. However, the lever lock see.s pretty diabolical after reading that nice writeup with the great pictures. It is chock full of quarters, so it would be a nice reward, but I have never picked a lever lock before, and this sounds like the lever lock from hell... I will certainly post of my success if I can defeat the Medeco. I thought I was getting somewhere last time I tried but it might have been a "false set."
