Variations in 72/40 keyways?

I recently purchased an Abus 72/40 on eBay. After watching several YouTube videos, I was a little surprised to find that my lock had a completely different keyway than those I found there.

Here's a pic of my lock:

You could drive a truck through that keyway.

Here's a image of the other keyway:

It's also not the challenging lock that others have commented on. I haven't gutted it, but it appears to be 5 spools and the Abus-typical standard pin in one position. Tolerances are not high, there's quite a bit of play in the cylinder, and I can pick it in 20-30 seconds.

There is no country of origin marking on the packaging, but there is a vendor sticker from a tag-out/lock-out supplier on the box that says made in China. Some YouTube commentators (including bosnianbill) indicate that theirs (with the other keyway) were made in Germany.

Does anyone have any information on this difference?

I'd guess someone switched out the core assuming you didn't get it new. That's definitely not like any Abus keyway I've seen!

Picture of the blue lock looks like a Brady LOTO keyway.

OK, I think that explains it. The vendor I mentioned above is BradyID. Do they contract these cores from Abus? Because it has a set of Abus-branded keys that work with it.

This is an old thread, but I never replied to it.
I personally have Abus 72/40 in 3 versions: American/AM3 keyway, Yale/Y52 keyway, and Abus proprietary keyway. There could possibly be others.

I've got a Brady/ABUS like this too, although it's a lockout/tagout lock. I dont have the model off-hand. But I did find the keyway amusing.

This is Abus's restricted keyway. IF you look at it sideways it spells ABUS. It's pretty crazy but nowhere near as bad as their WW Keyway.

Usually the bow of the key will have a couple letters on it, like TT or WW this is how I determine the keyways. I'll try to post a pic of the WW Keyway later today.
