Tips on an older 7-pin ASSA cylinder?

So I recently got a couple of really neat ASSA cylinders shipped to me from Sweden. One is an SCD and the other is not. I've been battling with the non-SCD one quite a bit today and I keep running into the same problem; I get into a deep false-set and can't seem to get out of it at all. I'm guessing it's due to the bullet shape of the keypins and that I may be over-lifting them to where they get caught.

Here are some pictures of it:

If anybody has any tips or experience with this type of lock, please let me know. Any information is appreciated. I don't even know the type of ASSA cylinder that this is (if it has a specific name).

Its an ASSA 700. Here is a video of me picking one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg7YuamUOtg. Picking tips, get the false then lighten up on the tension so you can work the pins out of the deep countermilling in the keypin chambers.

This one has counter-milling, too? I thought it was only the SCD version that had that.

I guess I don't know, I thought the SCD was just a super anti-drill feature. Mine was an SCD never messed with a regular. Take it apart again and let us know!!

Okay so I just dismantled it, and there isn't any counter-milling. So it shouldn't be too difficult to pick if I just keep at it. I think a large part of the problem is that with 7 pins it's so deep that it makes it easy to lose track of where you're at. Also those keypins are a pain.

Same as Kokomo, gotta ease up a lot on the tension, on the ASSA 7-Pin i picked, it had the evil :assaspool: for top pins, the ledges would get caught like crazy, at times i had to manually turn the wrench back out of the deep false set, because the pins were stuck i didnt get any counter rotation at all. Those locks are great fun to pick, but they are a pain the ass too. You'll get it, took me a while to get mine open.

Yay!

Got it open!

I used top-of-keyway tension with a Peterson Gem. I was using VERY light tension near the end.
Thank you all for your help.

Let me tell you, this cylinder is a whole lot of fun, but it'll probably take a while until I can pick it reliably.

I'd like to purchase that lock from you.

Re: Tips on an older 7-pin ASSA cylinder?

Does ASSA just use whatever pins they have laying around? I have a SCD and all the driver pins are the regular ones with rounded edges. So there is no false set. You just have to keep pushing the pins into the right position which is not hard but just tedious :-(
