Why did ya drill all those extra holes in it ..... :shock:

really do ya have the key to show, this would be a great cutaway

suppose a cutaway could be made so that you see the plug cylinder shear line only through holes drilled to intersect the individual collumns at the shear line,
I know im sometimes incoherent, but say six holes in the side of the cylinder to break through at the shear,

Our you could drill holes into the cylinder and plug to show the key pintip interaction, these holes would be on different centers as the key bitting raises up and goes down.

Interesting lock/pins/key. At first, thought it might be a sidebar with rotating pins due to the chisel points, but saw the guides and channels in the pin holes. I think it may be a gimmick, as you could easily make a key that is much simpler that would still work fine. But then I thought of a few possibilities.

Perhaps it is meant as a picking deterrent, with the feel of so many pin tips. The barrel driver pins would add to pick resistance. I wonder how hard it would be to impression.

Bumping is prevented by not allowing all of the pins to rest at the bottom of the keyway.

I'm not certain, but I would guess that the double cuts are to allow for large masterkeying systems and has nothing to do with pick resistance.

This design has been sold as the ASSA d12 for at least a year or two. At first when I saw this post I wondered if ASSA had licensed the design from TrioVing or if it's the other way around. Looking over the link listed above though it seems that TrioVing, like so many other lock companies, now simply falls under the umbrella of the ASSA/Abloy conglomerate.

ASSA lists this lock design as a "medium security" lock in their literature. I haven't spoken to anyone who has picked one yet though. Bugger of a keyway. Thanks for sharing the pics, I had no idea this was also being sold under the TrioVing name.

It looks like this design may be just a method to have patent control on key blanks, much like the DOM and other brands with dimple keys with small divots in the center of the dimples and related techniques. The pins themselves don't make it much harder to pick but duplicating keys could require a special machine. It looks like it could require some changes on the key duplicator "feeler" to successfully copy the deepest valleys correctly. I could be mistaken though.
