I belong to a hackerspace in Cincinnati Oh. Once a month we pick some locks take them apart and see the impact that our attack has had on the lock on a microscopic level. Have have digital microscopes, tons of locks, macro photography rigs, and a facility (and tools) to fabricate picks. Adult beverages are usually consumed. We have taught a class on pick fabrication that was well received. You can check out the calendar and the space here:

We prefer the term urbanly distressed with a large number of entrepreneurial individuals selling innovative reasonably priced pharmaceutics on the open market . The neighborhood is rough but, the space is huge for the money. We have never had a problem at all with the neighborhood or the folks there. The rest of the building was converted to lofts.
