Hey Admin,

would it be possable to have a forum plugin installed called Tapatalk ?

its an iphone blackberry and android app which lets you browse the forum from your phone without using the website! it will also attract new members as you can search for forums to join from inside the app! its a free plugin and 100% legit

It's an interesting idea - but the cost is the issue. Granted its a one time cost at the lowest level of $999 - but at this juncture, I'm doing good just to pay the monthly hosting fees.

i'm sure there is a plugin for phpBB that will improve mobile browsing. mech, check out the phpBB mod sites! those are much cheaper, if not free.

I've run a selection of forums, and I'd advise against it.

The software provides little to no benefit, if you want an iPhone app, add a more iPhone friendly theme and allow users to change it to that theme when browsing it on a mobile device. There is probably a way to get this done automatically with phpBB.

As for the iPhone users, simply add a link to the dashboard as a widget.

it just reduces the amout of data you are needing to download thats all! though the plugin was free! oh well

Tapatalk has a no cost (to the website) option. I use it on a number of sites without issues.

It does however only support core site features, No plugins etc.

One of a few reasons why I no longer visit this site much, most web forums have adapted for the new technology that enable you to visit via android devices, Tapatalk is great and all the forums I visit now use it. I am on the run all the time, just no time to use a home base computer.

Forgive my computer ignorance and my resistance to change of any sort lol...
but it seems to me everything runs quite well the way it is now. I mean, I've no
probs browsing the forum with my Samsung Galaxy phone. It's kind of a bitch to
post much of anything... but it works for at least taking a quick look anytime.

...but again, I've shit-4-brains when it comes to computers...
so I could very well just be talking out my ass here. I dunno. lol

I'm happy though.

Well, just because some piece software was written doesn't mean that we should use it. Taptalk isn't happening, and the forum is completly usable on android phones and many people use iphones too, so whatever. And saying that most forums on the net use that is complete and total bullshit beyond even comprehension of the immense degree of bullshitiness of the statement. You don't like that I don't want to put some piece of shit on my server that I don't trust, tough...

its a great app and would bring more people to the site as you can search for forums thru the app, it would reduce bandwidth use on the server also.

Have to agree with Mech that for some of us tapatalk is useful

In my case work blocks any lock site, and there is a certain amount of blocking on my work laptop too, so my primary usage is via phone & tablet.

Tapatalk makes my 3G usage considerably more pleasant, plus with things like subscribing to threads etc it on the whole makes a life easier.

I have had to fight the wife to get using the 'home' machine tonight and it's unusual for me to win
