Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

So I'm not sure where to put this but it's PC related so here we go.

So I bought a Celestron 5MP USB Microscope 20-200X zoom on it for doing knife sharpening and playing with and wanted to do a quick write up on this thing.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMJ ... UTF8&psc=1

I paid $84 USD on amazon and it shipped pretty quick. This does exactly what it sais, it's nothing amazing but it gets the job done. I'm not going to bore you with some lengthy review but I'll post a couple pictures I took of knife trademarks to give you an idea. This thing is great for seeing the knife's edge for sharpening, can take some great close up video and pictures for all sorts of projects and work, impressioning, pins, and eBay pictures for closer stuff like posting knife trademarks for buyers to see that it's the real deal. It can be a little pain to focus at times but it definitely better than a normal camera trying to digitally zoom in.

Not able to see any of the photos at the moment. Do you need to click 'make public' on imgur or something like that?

Re: Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

Cool. Always love a different perspective.
In the first picture with the knife tip are we seeing 25.4mm or 2mm? Specs give 20x to 200x magnification with "(Note: Final magnification determined by monitor size)". I would expect at 200x we would be able to see into each individual scratch.
Can you give us a full size picture (or link) at maximum magnification with some sense of scale? Maybe a serrated pin resting on a penny?
Thanks

Re: Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

Looks like a handy setup and at a reasonable price. The way my eyes are going on me I need all the help I can get.

Not to go off topic but I'm wondering if anyone has tried those USB 5-10mm borescopes you see on AliExpress for $20 or so? I've been tempted to bite the bullet and order one as the price is worth the risk but a review would be nice.

Re: Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

It's hard to get a good focus on anything not flat, and I found that 200X and somewhere in between have the same height setting so there is a lot of up and down and focus playing to get good pictures. For how much I paid I am very happy.

Looks excellent. Nice piece of gear there.

If it makes it easier for you to display images, and prevents dead links years down the road, you can upload images directly to your forum post, hosted on our server if you want.

Re: Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

Those new pics really highlight the abilities of the scope, excellent and yes I'd say it's a good investment. Great another item on the shopping list.

Re: Celestron 5MP USB Microscope

Okay, the original photos show up straight away on a PC, but not on my mobile. ssl doesn't make any difference.

Can see the last three no problem.
