Knife in progress

10 inches long, 2cm/20mm thick. 12 oz

Image
Friend cut it out of a steel sheet with his torch and I ground the edge

Cleaned it up a bit with a wire brush to get that black crap off it

If you can tell i've started grinding where the top of edge stopped to take some weight off of the knife and to make the blade cut better

I plan on make a wood handle and temper and harden it once i have it basically finished

Re: Knife in progress

Very nice, how do you plan on tempering it, do you have a kiln or a forge? Also what kind of steel is it? O1, 1084, 1095?

It's going to make a nice bush knife, if that is its intended purpose.

I don't own a forge but i know someone who does or I could make one I heard its pretty easy and cheap to make one. Don't know what type of steel it is, I just found a chunk of metal at my house and decided to make a knife. Its intended purpose is a bush knife, that why i wanted it thick so i could baton it
