William Rodgers 1941 trench knife

purchased in 1941,by a US infantryman, to replace the inferior G.I. knife at the time.(Sheffield Steel is far superior to any that i know of from this era)
sheath made on the fly from a belt.
engraving reads: William Rodgers
(i cut it MY way)
a treasure.

Oooo. No mystery there, it's a period combat knife. As far as Sykes-Fairbairn daggs go that model type with the "I cut it my way", is especially cool as the US military purchased them to issue to paratroopers and other invasion forces. It is a most likely issued to a soldier prior to D-day, which is why even in a reletively used condition they go for a hundred bucks. That's a damn fine stabber!

I have a sheffield dagger, but it's more modern. Made by J. Nowill & Sons. They are great boot knives.

As far as period steel quality goes, there are German knives that were up to snuff with the stainless coming out of Sheffield. Made by Krupp.
