Re: Edgeco

I've seen some of their switchblades - but I have no experience with them. Ck w/ Tooly - he's the knife expert.

Re: Edgeco

They have been out of business for over a decade, but the knives were supposedly of acceptable quality until they started going under and hocking some really cheap junk. When spring loaded autos were made illegal, they were selling blades with the handle parts for customer assembly to get around the legal horse shit. I think they sold out to Bear MFG. which is the company that makes a balisong I have. I've heard they were overpriced, but understandably so given the type of knives they were selling. I don't own an old edgeco, but it seems like they weren't high end. At the same time not the el cheapo junk steel stuff that falls apart the first time you use it either.

Re: Edgeco

Thanks Tooly,

I was wondering as I have one of their "tactical one handers" that was my Grandfather's... It holds an edge well and is solidly built as far as all the metal parts go, but the handle is delaminating on me... almost seems like it's really thick mica. I use it alot, but given the source it kinda sucks that it's degrading on me. Just wondering the consensus or at least anyone's opinion on them as I really couldn't find much on them on the intarwebz.

I'd say what you said is likely a very fair assessment.

Re: Edgeco

Sounds like an early 90's style pattern. What kind of faux are the handle scales? Stag, bone, wood grain... You can have those refit. Depending on the construction it might be something you could do yourself.

Close reletives toolbox and EDC pocket knives are some good stuff. My father had a lock back knife with the laminate wood handle I used to covet like crazy when I was young. Really solid construction, but the laminate handle scales... come to think of it I wonder who made that knife? Where are the markings on yours?

Re: Edgeco

One the base of the blade right by the hinge it says "Edgeco Tactical One Hander" and on the opposite side of the blade by the finger grip for closing it, it says "ITALY"

The handle isn't a faux finish, just black laminate of some sort. I guess the flaking is likely due to the heavy use it gets, as it's my carry blade.
