I am looking for a folder pocket knife with a blade as sharp as a straight razor.

Does such a knife exist ?

Many knifes are capable of that... Few knife sharpeners are. My pocket knife is always sharp enough to shave. One of the issues is how long the knife will hold the edge. The better the steel, the better it will hold the edge. It's one of the reasons I spent extra for a M390 steel blade folder.

The Benchmade Rukus that is in the EDC thread is that sharp.

Also the small folding ceramic knives are razor sharp......but brittle.

I'd say that all Benchmade knives come razor sharp and most quality blades also. They will stay that way as long as you don't use them. :D

If you want something as truly sharp as a straight razor it will not maintain that edge for long.

Simply lightly drawing a straight razor across the mouth of a glass jar is enough to dull it to the point of a bad shave. Doing the thumb test will roll the edge over and require stropping and tapping the edge on a sink might require it to be honed.

Your best bet would be to invest in a quality knife and the in proper sharpening equipment up to say 5-8k grit and then learn how to PROPERLY use it.

I know a bit like sharpening. If you want those scary sharp edges go with a 30° inclusive and take it to 5000 grit and strop too. I keep mine around 50° inclusive for a utility purpose. I don't go over 1000 grit because I like slicing vs. push cuts.. Always strop and get rid of the burr.

Or go with a very inexpensive option.

Just carry the pocketknife of your choice, and also carry a $1.70, disposable straight razor.

Throw it away and replace it when it gets dull.

Gents maybe its a thread hijack but what do you use to sharp knifes? I have a nice bowie but its dull as a toy knife. I tried to run it through those kitchen knife sharpener but that did nothing.

MBIs idea sounds good. You will always have a sharp blade and no need to spend time sharpening.

Something like this? This was a quick goolgle search, but back in the day they had better models of these that acted as straight razor pocket knives. They also make some that you can put your own blades in out there, just gotta search. I almost bought an old one on eBay but I didn't think it was worth 50 bucks.

How about this? It's a folding utility knife by Klein. It has a pocket clip, and a quick change blade system. I've used it to strip thousands and thousands of feet of scrap wire.(AWG#10 - 750MCM) It is really great in hand, and having the ability to always have a razors edge is awesome.

For a beginner, I always recommend the lansky Diamond kit. It gives impressive results considering that it can be used without any appreciable sharpening skill. That's what I started with. If you don't plan on sharpening any "super steel" knives (M390, Elmax, etc.), you can probably save a few bucks and go with their standard hones.
