Pictures of my Dicks.

Came across this one the other day when looking for something else.

It is an F. Dick pig knife for those who distain wimpy spears and like to get up close and personal when dispatching wild pigs.

I prefer a .30 caliber bullet. :soldier:

I got it as it is a beautiful dagger blade (the synthetic handle is a bit Meh to look at but a fabulous grip). Blade length is 8 inches (just over 20 cm).

I don’t know if they are still made.

My other Dick??

This old smooth steel from the abattoir days 40 years ago and it was old then. It is quite valuable. Cost a bomb back then and I don’t think that it has gone down in value since. It is unusual in that it is smooth by manufacture – not hours spent rubbing down on a brick.

Want to put a shaving edge on a carbon steel blade, here’s the Dick for it.

A bit of a strange name for cutlery , like Smeg appliances, and I’m sure you can imagine the jokes emanating from the name…..”can I borrow your Dick?” etc.etc. :D

Anyway, just thought I share with the other knife freaks here.

Nice knife, I like it. Blade reminds me a little of a Fairbairn Sykes.

That would be an effective blade. But personally like the bottom of the handle on the FS. Used correctly, it is lethal at either end. But both this knife and the FS have the additional feature of being long enough to sharpen the knife on the other side of whatever you are killing. :D (Personally prefer a shorter blade for most purposes).

Re: Pictures of my Dicks.

Yes. Both edges are sharpened but they won’t cut worth a damm. Like the FS, it is designed with only one purpose and that is to stab, ie it's a stiletto. I didn’t buy it to use, I just liked the blade. :D

The FS while a beautiful knife suffered a couple of flaws. The tang was too small/thin and was prone to bending and breaking (mainly through corrosion). The blade was also rather fragile (at the tip) and was limited to only one application. Soldiers wanted a knife as a general purpose tool, i.e. The Ka-bar.

The Americans preferred the M3 dagger as it was a full tang knife and stronger construction.

Mr. Fairbairn and Mr. Applegate designed a new commando knife called the Smatchet but it never caught on.

There were many versions of the FS knife and it is an interesting study for any interested in the history of knives.
