Hello from the Desert South West

Heyas, everyone!

I've been wanting to get into locksport for several years now, but have been seriously short on time.

Recovering from spine surgery has finally given me the time needed; I've been picking at least 8 hours per day since March 1st, and will be able to continue to do so until the end of May. I must say that it has been very entertaining.

I knew a year in advance that I would have an extended recovery period after the surgery, so I spent that time preparing. I've watched just about all 1,000+ BosnianBill videos (as well as other youtube lockpickers) and read everything I could get my hands on.

My setup is still growing. Right now I have The Essential 12 set from TOOOL, the Dangerfield PRAXIS kit, a few various Peterson picks, and a few MultiPicks on order from Oz. As for locks... not much. A few padlocks, two Ultimate Adversary mortise cylinders, and a bunch of kik's from Peterson.

Wow, I imagine this is some boring reading, so I'll just finish up by saying "HI", and what a fun sport this is.

Re: Hello from the Desert South West

Thanks, gents : ) To be honest with you, I don't mind the surgery recovery at all. I have a nice comfy reclining couch, my panavise on a tray I put on my lap, and I spend the day happily picking away. And the best part? My wife can't get on my back about it!!

I'm on a few minute break from picking. It used to take me all day to pick the few locks I have, but now it's down to a couple of hours.

So today I'll be re-pinning the ultimate adversary locks (again), as well as the Sparrow kik's.

I just added three Stanley padlocks, which I can now successfully pick quickly. I really like the Stanley padlocks, and hope to replace their gooey innards with something substantial like an Everest Primus or Abloy Protec2. Now to do the research to find out which model Protec would work. I'm hoping that I'll find some info by searching here; I imagine I'm not the first guy to have the idea of improving Stanley padlocks by giving them a much better core.

Trying to talk the wife into letting me get one of those 250 buck universal pinning kits... ;)

Dang, this sport is addicting!

Hello from the desert southwest, too! I'm in Tucson. Where are you located?

Love your area! Used to frequently drive/ride up around there when I lived in northern Arizona. One of the more picturesque areas in the southwest. :)

Thanks, Gordon... Yeah, we love it here. The summers are as hot as Las Vegas, but the winters are amazing. Lot's of fun outdoor activities, and when the heat is too much to handle, you can always stay inside and pick locks. ;)

A more likely addiction resulting from your surgery would be oxy's or morphine

Seems you've found a much better option :D I'm really glad you're here!

As you're already finding out... this is a truly wonderful place.
