Hello all. I primarily joined this forum in the hopes that I might get some new leads on a lockpicking book written in the late 1800's early 1900's (My grandfather said 1905) just a little after the Alfred C. Hobbs/Adam worth era.
I think it is from Britain, and has lock picking techniques from the 1800's 1900's.

Does anyone here know of any old lockpicking or safecracking,texts,books, or pamphlets written in that era?

The old books providing some safe opening information available online which I know are:

Allan Pinkerton: Thirty Years a Detective. (1900)
George Hayter Chubb: Protection from Fire and Thieves. (1875)
Linus Yale Jr.: A dissertation on locks and lockpicking. (1856)

You can't go far wrong with George Price - A Treatise on Fire and Thief-proof Depositories, and Locks and Keys.

Thanks for pointing out that book. I had it completely forgotten.

I have now read the first 60 pages or so and Price's book is great! It contains really good information about the construction of safes. Now it is obvious to me why modern burglars would laugh about such a safe. I'd wish there were newer books with that kind of information. Maybe one from the 1890s, one from the 1930s or 1940s and one from the 1980s or 1990s.
