Hello everyone. I stumbled upon this site while looking for information on manipulating a combination on a safe I just acquired. I have been a key and lock lover since I was a little kid. I never perused anything more than collecting keys and locks until about 5 years ago when I started picking up a few old safes.

My favorite safe is a 1908 Victor cannonball that I recently restored. Here is the before as I found it in Minnesota:



It was a major project and needed some mechanical work, all new nickle plating with damascening, and of course, bodywork, paint, and lettering.



Beside some other run of the mill safes from the late 1800's I also have a very rare Martin Briggs and Son safe from ~1870. A very unique piece.

Back to manipulating, I just picked up a Fort Knox gun safe that has issues so I was looking for technical information on the S&G lock. It looks like I found the right place to learn a thing or two. I am sure I will have questions, I hope some of them will not be "dumb" questions. Thanks in advance.

I and others would LOVE to see the inside as well as the restoration process if you have pictures.

I have the whole process documented and will open up a thread on it if there is interest. It was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done. I just love cannonball safes and would love to find one of the true round ones. Here is a teaser on the inside.

It is the original. From what I gather, the Victors were the main users of these time locks. You wouldn't happen to have an internal door latch lying around in your junk drawer would you?

Can anyone suggest how I can improve the process of adding pictures to a thread. I use tinypic.com and it is ok for a picture or two but to do a thread on this safe will involve a lot of pictures. The pop up ads and security codes have made it frustrating and time heavy to use. There has to be a better way to host the pictures. Suggestions as to where I can host a whole album to easily add the pictures to my thread? I am not sure if the attachment feature will work for this? HELP!

Very nice. Unfortunately I do not have one of these models nor any parts for it. They are quite rare. The only reason I noticed it is because I have been on a bit of a time lock and antique safe lock collection journey for a little while now

I personally like this place. http://www.photobucket.com Once you make an account you can make photos public or private, make albums of pictures etc. You can even make slideshows. The free accounts have a very generous limit on how many pictures you can upload etc.
