Hi guys.

I have some Lockwood padlocks that I want to replace the cylinders with something more secure like a Protec or a BiLock etc.

Can anyone tell me where I can find what the designation of the cylinders are that will fit these locks?

The lock bodies are really strong and look the same on many different brands ie. but the Lockwood cylinders are a bit too easy. I've looked at the catalogues for a range of locks that have, what look to be, the same bodies but can't seem to find what the replacement cylinders are designated.

Basically, I want cylinders that will keep me out for a long while - if you know what I mean.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry if that's not too clear. Something like " that's a XYZ42P style of cylinder that you need for that lock"

Picture of the lock and/or cylinder? Easier to point you in the right direction

Try an ABLOY Protec. That should keep you out "for a long while", as you put it.

Unfortunately, do not know which Lockwood padlock bodies you want the lock to fit into, so can not be a lot of help. Not that I have much knowledge of Lockwood locks.

In almost every lock manufactures catalogues there are these locks ( I assume they are the same) just the cylinders and brand stamps are different.

In the picture, the core has two lugs on the back, others have a semicircle cut out and others are the fig 8 configuration like this . Look at the bitting on the key and you will see the problem. Drop a half diamond down the key way and it opens, don’t even have to pull it out. Changing the bitting won’t help because every Lockwood I have ever come across (a lot) will fall to a Bogota and most succumb to a half diamond.

As everything has a part number, I am assuming that there are replacement cores for these locks and they have a designation number/code (or whatever). I also assume that there will be a code for the different rear actuating patterns. Like XYZa, XYZb etc. for two lugs, semicircle etc.

If you had one of these locks (say an Abloy) and you wanted to order a replacement cylinder, what would you order, ie. What would be the part number that you would put down?

Is there a list of common cores and their designation? I can’t seem to find such a thing but I’m sure (hopeful) that such a thing exists or does each manufacture have a different designation.

As all these manufacturers are owned by Assa/Abloy anyway I hope there is a standard.

Yes, I'm positive a Protek will keep me out. even a BiLock.

Think I have that same model of Lockwood padlock in my collection. Can take out the cylinder and see what matches can be made. All I have to do is find it. I have... uhh... a couple of locks here. Maybe more than a couple.

Neil, I think I understand what you are after. I have the replacement part number for the cylinder of the 334C5 because I ordered that part many years ago but because it was many years ago I will have to do a small hunt for it. Give me a few hours and I'll see if I can find it.

The barrel of the 334x45 locks is the same as the 570 oval cylinders (click the Specification tab http://www.lockweb.com.au/en/site/lockweb/Lockwood-Products/?groupId=1175870&productId=948157#specification). The actual cylinder is unsepcified--which is poor technical writing form IMHO. (See http://www.lockweb.com.au/Local/AU/Documents/Catalogues/Lockwood/Lockwood%20Modular%20Cylinder%20Extensions.pdf for the details on the 570 oval cylinder.) The best description of the cylinder in the 334 series padlock that I could find is "570 Plug Compatible KNK Cylinder" (http://www.locallocksmiths.co.nz/Product%20Catalogues/Padlocks%20product%20list.pdf) I am unable to find the actual part number for the KIK cylinder.


At this point I abandoned the Lockwood website and just searched for high security lock manufacturers replacements and this was much more fruitful:
