S&G 951 Prices

I've heard a lot of speculation as to what Sargent & Greenleaf military padlocks REALLY cost the government and which keyways are officially used by whom, so I did a little searching. I don't claim to be an expert, or that this info is 100% correct, but this is what I found.

There are different procurement contracts at different times for different agencies. There isn't just ONE government price. Also, some agencies and contractors will sometimes purchase equipment outside of the normal procurement system based on needs and availability, so there is no guarantee that any given lock used by a government entity was purchased through a DoD contract. If they were forced to buy these items outside of their normal supply chain, they likely had to pay more than the contract prices you see here, and the keyway could be different than specified in the bid, for their agency.

S&G 951 with D4 keyway, NSN 5340-01-510-2351, for US Navy and USMC - $1151.00

S&G 951 with D4 keyway, NSN 5340-01-217-5068, for US Military units outside of the USN or USMC - $684.11

S&G 951 with R1 keyway, NSN 5340-01-449-4346, for other Federal agencies and DoD contractors - $731.68

S&G 951C with S1 keyway, NSN 5340-01-585-7691, for foreign military and sales to the general public - $1674.13

I couldn't find a date for these bid prices but I'm guessing it was fairly early after the adoption of the 951. Based on the bid price for foreign military and commercial sales, this bid was submitted before S&G's last commercial price increase, because the S&G 2010 price list shows the 951C at $2266.00 and the 2011 price list has it for $2537.92. S&G would be obligated to fill their DoD contracts at their contracted bid prices until the expiration of the bid, but judging by the current retail price of the locks, any future DoD bids for these locks will probably be at higher prices than the bids listed above.

It also mentions at the time of this bid that the HI-SHEAR LK 1200, the S&G 833C, the S&G 831-B, the S&G 826D and the TUFLOC are no longer available through the military supply system.

Re: S&G 951 Prices

The 833 I have is a R1 keyway, which from my original research I figured was a DoD contractor keyway.

Yep, that's one of the sites I used to research the prices. Thanks for posting the link, I forgot to do that.

umm, im thinking $300 is around what most would grudgingly hand over for one at this time. the one on ebay is at $500 now and no takers ;) but if one were to come around for 250, maybe 300 i could be interested.
