That's the keyway of the 707

Press the button with a flat screwdriver to pop and remove the secondary knob.

Remove the cap and screws to expose the core mechanism. Remove the cutter pins to remove the core mechanism's housing. (Note that once you clear the 4 protuding bracket, you will need to turn the housing a few degrees to fully remove it.)

To remove the mecanism, you need to pry (gently!) the 4 brackets toward the exterior WHILE holding the core down. Be careful when removing it, the 2 springs contained within will want to jump out.

One last step to remove the locking mechanism. Gently pull the locking mechanism out. Its the innermost ring in the center. Keep note of its position, you can't put it back in any other and it doesn't form a full circle.

Nice pics, thanks. I have a couple of these knobs I've been meaning to gut and recondition.

I've been sort of half watching eBay, hoping to run into a lucky score and get a locksmith's rekeying kit for these Schlage wafer locks at a good price. Who knows if I'll ever need it, I just love having a rekeying kit for everything imaginable. You could say I'm a bit weird that way. Repairing old broken locks and putting them back into working condition is just so satisfying. It's handy having the proper tools and parts to be able to do it right.

To be honest, I knew nothing of these when the smith gave it to me. He gave it to me with a smile. I looked at it trying to discover its secrets. Turned it over, looking for ways to open it. After a minute or so, I came to the conclusion there was no easy way, I'd have to disassemble it fully to get to the lock. He smiled again and said to have fun with the schlage 707 while handing me the the blanks.

I have one of the punches used for cutting these keys and a box of blanks of each of the keyways. Never used any of it, so the punch is sitting in a box somewhere in my garage or basement, in storage.

This chassis appears similar to Schlage's other commercial lines (obsolete M series, current A series, etc.). A good pictorial for someone looking to disassemble; nice work!

This keyway is a "W" the other one used in this style of wafer lock is a "A". They were common on boats. Super easy to pick.

Yeah, funny how for a long time they advertised it as unpickable.

Eventually someone developed a pick specifically for them.
These used to come with just about any medium to large pickset, but not sure if they do anymore since the locks are a lot less common. I've met a lot of people with one of these in their pick set, since it came with it, but they have absolutely no idea what it's used for.

This tool can simplify picking them, but you don't need to have one. You can just use regular picks.
