Re: Kai's Videos

Excellent job , can you tell me why you use top of keyway tension , is it advantageous or just personal preference ?
Also you appear to use heavy tension on your wrenches , does that
make SPP easier ?
I could probably pick 1 or 2 of those in 4 HOURS so any insight is
appreciated , but i think my home brew tools would be seriously bent
by then , they are a bit naff and i'm still waiting for an order after 4
months !

Thanks to the both of you :) I learned using TOK and it just kinda stuck with me. But, it seems like a more direct force to the pins IMO. I also like to use the space in the keyway that would otherwise be taken up with the wrench. Lets you get down low when needed.

As far as the tension, each lock was different. Some were really light others took some force just to get the plug to bind. That was really the hardest part. Opening each lock individually was no problem. But trying to change technique on the fly from one to the next took some practice.

I highly recommend everyone giving it a shot. Set a time goal and try to see how many locks you can squeeze in. Took me a good week just to memorize the pin order on all 10 locks. Then I had to remember the tension on each one.

Some really good practice if you're getting tired of your lock selection.

I agree that it's great practice. I try very hard not to memorize my locks though. I try to pick them "on the fly" every time. I don't think I've picked my 6-pin Brinks shrouded two times the same way ever and I've had it for 7 months. Picking "on the fly" keeps me paying attention to how the lock is "talking to me" and it has improved my overall picking ability substantially.

Loved the vids man. Keep them coming!

Absolutely. As a rule I wouldn't recommend trying to memorize your locks. This was just an attempt to remove the pin order as a variable. What I was left with then is how well/fast I could pick the different types of pins, and how well/fast I could switch tension technique from one lock to another.

I originally made that video thinking it something fun to do on a lazy Sunday. Quickly realized it was a lot harder than I thought. Ended up taking a really, really, long time.

If repetition and practice make for better lock picking, this is great way to keep it fun when your lock selection is looking a bit boring.

BTW, would love to trade out any of those locks. Will post a pic in that thread of everything I'm trying to get rid of.

Re: Kai's Videos

Sweet. I like the way you dumped the pins at the end. It's a shame it's so difficult to focus on small things like that and still have a larger field of view for the picking.

Now that I can watch the vids, I don't have audio. Hopefully that's temporary. Thanks for the cards.
