Re: pjzstones's lockpick vid's

this is the first american lock i've picked. i'm thinking that serrated pins aren't a weakness of mine. i'll have to get some more. this one was just a bit too easy.

Re: pjzstones's lockpick vid's

That's good picking. A few quick notes about the American you got though. The one you got essentially has a cheapo master padlock cylinder in it. Which probably doesn't have any security pins in it, this is why you were so surprised that it was so easy.

Also, the lock isn't key-retaining. Since you took the key back out of the lock while the shackle was still unlocked. It's not a big deal, I just thought you should know. Also, to rekey it you would have to drill out that rivet. It's not the greatest design considering that they're claiming it can be rekeyed.

Next time make sure you get a real 1100. You'll be much happier that way. (plus it should have a screw instead of a rivet)

ok cool thanks for clearing that up for me :D i'm kind of bumbed that it uses a master cylinder. although it does have serrated key and driver pins. the main reason i got it was to get a feel for serrated pins, but i'll definatly be getting an actual 1100 next time. thanks again, if i'm wrong about something i appreciate it when some one corrects me.

Unfortunately for you, Farmerfreak is correct. I paused the video at 26 seconds and at 1:15 to look at the key and the keyway. Looks like you've got a 4 pin lock that takes a standard Master M1 key. So...its basically a master no. 1 with an american body. :(
PM me and I'll get a real 1105 sent your way ;)

Re: pjzstones's lockpick vid's

Good job on the American.

I think I know what happened on the Master. Notice the key position at the beginning of the video, and then at the end when it is "broken." It's 180 degrees off. The driver pins are likely dropping into the chamber and they happen to be tilted in such a way that it only wants to turn one way. Simply take the back of your pick and push all the driver pins down in the bottom of the keyway and turn it clockwise.

This happened because when you closed the shackle it spun the cylinder like a plug spinner would.

Re: pjzstones's lockpick vid's

I missed something before I posted...

There are holes in the bottom of the cylinder housing, which all of the regular pins fell through into the lock body. On a normal padlock this wouldn't have happened, but since your is hollowed out plastic...

If you had a plug spinner you could do what I said in the last post except not lock it up. At that point you would have one chance to spin it to the unlocked position. Or you could possibly use a comb pick to open it if it locked back up.

I'm not sure how this lock comes apart. So opening the lock may not help that much. Oh yeah, there is always the possibility of shimming the lock, I just never do it so I usually forget about it.

Good luck.

yep, you sure are right. i didn't even notice that it was 180 degrees the wrong way lol. the driver pins are still in the bible and the key pins are inside the lock body. i've actually had this happen on a proseries but it didn't dump the pins so i was able to correct it. i'll be sure to be more careful in the future.

Re: pjzstones's lockpick vid's

i realized what i did! it's key-retaining so when you close the shackle the plug doesn't spin. the problem i had was that i accidentally turned the plug clockwise to relock it instead of counter clockwise and then the pins dumped out because the lock body is hollow. :yep:

We've all done it - some of us just don't admit it. I've done it - several times.
