Medecoder Video

Hey peoples,

Just posted a video I made a while back that never got onto the net until now. It shows how Medecoders work and also demonstrates how to use one. Along with some reference pictures, this would aid folks interested in building their own. The video is right at the top of this page:

http://theamazingking.com/medecoder.html

This page also tells the story of the tool and the events surrounding it. Let me know what you folks think.

Re: Medecoder Video

That's a really sharp looking tool.

Your site kicks serious ass! Great reference for pickers of all skill levels.

Thanks for the link. All the vids, pictures, and medeco info are really going to help me build a better groove grabbing tool to use. Now that I've seen an original in action, I see why my pen tube ghettocoder doesn't work so smooth. I'm embarassed to say I think I have the parts in my toolbox to make a crude version with replaceable wires. You just saved me alot of headache with this post. It's very much appreciated.

I don't know how I never knew this site was out there... Good luck with that 3KS.

It's called an m3 Slider Bypass tool. I believe Tobias(the legend) and Eric Michaud(of Mul-t-Lock Overlifter fame) both came up with the idea independently. The difference between various m3 sliders is simply the location of the step that interacts with the key. In every m3, the slider is depressed the same distance forward. Slider bypass tools like that are the proper thickness to depress the slider that distance. It fits in front of the slider body (doesnt touch the step) and thus sets the slider. I learned of this from Tobias and Michaud and turned it into a convenient little clip. It's not really necessary though because once you have picked it to shear and then picked the sidebar; the slider becomes an "open lock" button which can be pressed with the tip of a pick.

Great video! Your site has been a great help to me as I've been studying Medecos for the last little while. Thanks for all the info!

I'm sorry if I sound stupid now but I don't really know what a slider is and what it's function are. If you could explain this to me it would be appreciated.

The slider is a feature of Medeco m3 that was added to make the lock more crazy. Really, it exists to make it harder to copy keys and to give Medeco an easy new patent. The slider is a spring loaded piece in the bottom-right of m3 keyways. A step on the bottom-right of m3 keys presses it forward to "set" it. The slider must be depressed correctly or it blocks the sidebar from dropping in. Here is a breakdown of an m3 that should help: http://theamazingking.com/images/locks/m3/m3.html
