Re: Jruther2's Lockpicking Vids

I have that exact same lock, (master 930 you called it) I was wondering what are the numbers ony our key? It looks almost exactly the same as mine. :P

Mine is 22432. After looking again it looks a bit different, but still. :P

Also, thanks for giving me a tip. That stupid rubber weather stuff was annoying so after seeing your video I just ripped it off. :P

Re: Jruther2's Lockpicking Vids

Here's a pic of the key.
Master 930 key 15Z102.jpg

This is from the Master Lock FAQ page:
Lost Keys & Key Replacement
Q: I lost the keys for my padlock. Is it possible to obtain new keys for my lock?

A: It is possible to obtain replacement keys for your padlock ONLY if you know the key number. The key number is stamped on the original keys provided with your lock. If you do not know the key number, it is possible to obtain additional keys from a locksmith who can impression your lock. If you do know the key number, go to a locksmith or local hardware store to order keys. Please note that the locksmith will charge you a fee for this service. Not all Locksmiths/Hardware Stores offer this service; please phone ahead.

So...I guess you could call Master Lock now and have them make you a key for my lock but I would bet that your picks will get it open just as fast with that core in it. However, mine now has a master safety lockout core in it with a different bitting than the one in the video and with five serrated and one spoorated driver. Possibly my next vid.

I was more noting on the fact that the same type of lock across the world has such a close cut. Obviously they aren't the same cut, but still, no dramatic angles, no variations. It's just amazing how close in common the keys are to one another. Then again, this is just another reason as to why Master sucks.

That's the inside of an 1105 right to left being 1-5. There should be some of the same variety of pins inside your lock if you are feeling spools.

Looks like an ASL40 with a brass shackle. 5 pins? Definately a fine looking lock. Too bad about the key.

Re: Jruther2's Lockpicking Vids

Thanks Tooly, nice pic!. I looked around some more and found a video from dellboy1987 on youtube. He picks a lock that looks to be just like mine and he pretty much confirmed what you said: 'similar to an 1100'. Guess I should have done a little more research its just hard to do a keyword search when all you have to go on is 'American Lock'.

Re: Jruther2's Lockpicking Vids

Thanks. It takes me forever to get pin photos close to being in focus.

You should check out americanlock.com. The product catalog, and service manual are pdf's under Product Information right at the top of the page. Really handy, as long as the lock or part you're referenceing is still in production.

Yeah, I'm still a little camera shy when it comes to talking on my vids (southern accent just doesn't sound intelligent no matter how hard I try...or maybe there's another reason I don't sound intelligent  ). I try to show that I kind of know what I'm doing sometimes. If anyone needs some tips on opening locks that I open in my videos I hope they'll ask and maybe I can help them on a person to person basis.
Thanks for your kind words!

My first Abus its a 72/40 security rating 6 out of 10. Picked right out of the box so it takes some patience to watch this. 6 pinner 5 spools 1 regular driver.

That's it! You got the idea, Jruther2.

I also reach in there - feel the pin - and then gently twist the pick and the pin will set. I then move on to the next pin and do the same drill. If you use real light tension, you'll really get a feel for the pins. Great job.
